Please give hope and dignity to others

You've come to this website because you've met me, helped me or heard about what I'm doing and were interested enough to have a look. It's great you've taken the time to look here I really appreciate it. What I really need to make clear is that this trip is about raising money for charities that could really do with our help. So what would be great is that while you are here you do donate to 1 of the 4 charities I'm raising money for. With this website I aim to inform you about the trip and the charities while also entertaining you with the stories and photos of my travels with my blog. So for entertaining you is it too much to ask that you can help me in return?

People want to believe in a fair world, a world where children don't starve, where animals are treated with compassion or people that commit hideous crimes are punished. We might often feel disgusted to read or even share stories that show how cruel the world and us as a species can be, just recently there's been a lot of interest in child soldiers in africa. We often feel very passionate at the time, maybe we mention it to a friend or write some comments on a blog or to a newspaper. The point is generally we do nothing, sure words can be a powerful tool, but actions speak louder than words. These charities I'm helping work in action, they try to make the world a fairer, more compassionate place for the people they help. These people might be babies a few days old or older residents at Bukumbi Care Centre. So now my action is to cycle round europe to raise money for these charities, I hope your action will be to donate anything you can instead of just reading and thinking about making the world a slightly better place. The world can only be a better place through the actions of good caring people, what I'm trying to say is beautifully phrased by Einstein in his quote 'The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.'

Thanks Gary 16/3/2012

Now I have cycled over 7,500km on my charity cycle trip and cycled through more than 15 countries. At times it has been hard, climbing a 1,700 metre high mountain on a stone trail in montenegro, or days of rain in denmark, rear innertube exploding in Germany and breaking my wheel, dogs chasing me in various villages. Even through this I'm still carrying on as I know the people I'm helping have harder challenges in their lives. Getting a safe place to sleep, or enough food or medical care so they aren't sick are just some of the things they face. So please I don't care why you donate, to congratulate me on cycling over 7,500km or to help a child get malaria mediaction just donate. Below is a link to donate for 1 of the 4 charities I'm helping.

Thankyou for visiting the website. After meeting me or hearing about what I am doing I hope you will click on the charities section and donate to a charity. II've met many great people on my travels so far, but.my target of over €10,000 is still a long way off, so please read about who you can help today.

There is also a new Sponsorship and Thankyou section, so please visit here to see which companies and people have helped me on my way. Short Video clips will be put in the  Blog/Video section. These take ages to upload so most media will be photos on the blog. Here is one video from cycling through germany.

I set off on this solo Charity Cycle round Europe on the 10th of August.. Thankyou to friends and family who were there to see me off from a rain soaked Royal Mile in Edinburgh. So why am I doing this, read on to find out more.

I lived and worked in Tanzania and had an amazing experience, the time I spent there will live with me forever. I feel I should to give something back to all the people that work, live and make Tanzania such a wonderful place. I met so many wonderful, giving people there that it has inspired me to come up with a crazy plan of cycling Europe to raise money for various charities.

I've created this website to keep a track of what I'm doing before, during and after the trek. I will need your help though. Every donation will help. Not just the children, sick and poor in africa, but it will also help you. If you take a few minutes to look at the charities that we are going to help you'll know that you're helping people to live life with hope and dignity in a caring environment. Is it not great to know that you can help make this continue. This is what is driving me on this journey and every donation will inspire me to reach this end.

This is my route Starting in Edinburgh. A lot can change while I'm on the road soI expect this to change slightly as I go along.
